Author Guidelines

General Instructions

  • Kufa Journal for Nursing Sciences publishes original research and articles in different scientific fields (nursing, medicine, and related sciences).
  • The manuscripts considered with the understanding that they have not published previously in print or electronic format and are not under consideration by another publication or electronic medium.
  • The manuscripts are subjects for evaluation by specialized experts inside Iraq.
  • A written request submitted to the editorial in chief, which includes the title (s) of the manuscript (s) name (s) of author (s), and their scientific rank (s). If the manuscript (s) extracted from dissertation or thesis should specified.
  • Accepted manuscripts for publication submitted after modifications as one hard copy and copy on compact disc.
  • The manuscript would not return to author (s) if not accepted for publication.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Research articles: new, significant, innovative and original findings are suitable as research article (tables, figures and references). Kufa Journal for Nursing Sciences publishes original research and articles in different scientific fields (nursing, medicine, and related sciences).

Key Instructions

  • The manuscript should be submitted in either Arabic or English language with abstracts in both language. Each abstract should not exceed (300) word.
  • The manuscript submitted in four typed copies including the original ones on paper size (A4). A margin of (2.5) cm width should be left on both sides of the page. The manuscript should not exceed (15) pages which includes tables and figures.
  • The manuscript should be printed using Microsoft word program with letter type of Times New Roman or simplified Arabic, letter size (12) for the text, tables figure and reference. The letter size for the title is (16), and (14) for the author (s) name (s) and (10) for the abstract and the key words with space between lines one cm.
  • The manuscripts based on design of randomized controlled trials should reported as soon as possible after the trial has ended, ideally within 1 year after follow-up has been completed. For cohort studies, the date of final follow-up should be no more than 5 years before manuscript submission. Moreover data used in case-control or cross-sectional studies should have been collected as recently as possible, but no more than 5 years before manuscript submission.

Manuscript Include

  • The manuscript should organized according to the following:


  • The manuscript is begin with a well-formulated title; it should be clear, concise, and grammatically correct.


  • Names (s) of author (s), scientific rank (s), and place of work and title of manuscript written on a separate page in both language.


  • An abstract in the other language and in the following style (objectives, Design, methodology, results, conclusions and recommendations).
  • An abstract in the manuscript language and in the following style (objectives, methodology, results, conclusions and recommendations).
  • Key words (should follow the abstract which include (3 – 10) heading words, related to the title (s) of the manuscript (s).


  • Precise the introduction in a significant manner.
  • The introduction should be briefly justifies the research title.


  • A clear description or specific original reference is required for all statistical procedures that used in the manuscript.
  • A clear description is required for all the research methodology. 


  • Results should presented in the form of tables or figures when feasible.
  • The titles of the tables should presented above the tables, while in case of figures, the titles presented under the figures. 
  • All tables with abbreviations should enriched with footnotes.
  • The tables and figures should briefly justified the manuscript objectives.


  • The discussion should interpret the results clearly and concisely.
  • Focused on the interpretation of the results rather than repetition of the results section.


  • The conclusion should formulated according to the study results and discussion.
  • The conclusions should presented in form of conclusion rather than repetition of the study results.


  • The study recommendations should formulated based on the study discussion and conclusions.


  • Reference should presented using the Vancouver style and according to the priority in the text. Their total number should not exceed (50) ones. The references should be listed at the end as following :
  • If the reference is a book , the last name (s) ,the title of the book (bold ) , edition , place of publication , the name of publisher (s) , year of publication , and number of used page (s) should be listed as in the example:
  • Craven R, and Hirnle C. fundamentals of nursing: human health and function. 3rd ed. united states of America, Lippincott Williams & welkins, 2000: 122 – 131.
  • If the reference is a journal article , the title of the journal (bold ) , volume (issue) , the year of the publication , and the number of the used pages should be listed as in the example :
  • Sack DA, Sack RB. Test for enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli using Y1 adrenal cells in miniculture. Infect Immune 1975; 11:334-336. 
  • References in the text should referred to by numbers between brackets at the top of the end of each paragraph only.


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
